2. What kind of abuse do employers inflict on their maids? (by Amirah Bt Abdul Raffar)
There are many kind of abuses made by the employers on their maid. Some of them have been beaten, raped, tortured with scalding water and nearly all have been treated like slaves and not paid for months or years of exhausting work, beaten, raped, tortured with scalding water and nearly all have been treated like slaves and not paid for months or years of exhausting work .Many still bear the scars, scalds and wounds inflicted on them for example like the former case of Nirmala Bonat which can be refer to The Star Online http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/4/16/nation/20960801&sec=nation that stated; “In this case, the injuries (sustained by Indonesian maid Nirmala) did not fit lesser expectations of self-infliction but fitted self-infliction (by those with) psychological abnormality and personality disorder,”. Furthermore, there many others who suffer in silence, their stories untold and many more who continue to suffer because they were unable to escape. The issue is one of the growing concerns in Malaysia. The abuse occurs in different levels which involved the psychological, physical, as well as economic. Foreign domestic maids have been subjected to slapping, beating, and pinching. Besides, they are often overworked maids, where they have to wake up early in the morning as early as five and working till night. In addition, they were given poor quality food in small quantities. Apart from that, it has a case of an Indonesian Muslim maid named Siti Hajar who have been fed with pork by their employers. They were denied to contact with family and friends; the salaries also have been withheld and some of them were not given their pay at all. News taken from The Star Online-http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/6/26/nation/4201903&sec=nation stated that ‘Maids have filed up to 150 complaints every month with the authorities in Indonesia, alleging ill-treatment, overwork, unpaid salaries and physical abuse in Malaysia.’ The various tortures and abuses over maids were really a serious matter and need to be solved immediately. Animals being treat nicely; but why not human beings like them deserves the same?

Nowadays animals being terat nicely, but they cant give the same respect to human beings.What is the world it is?Why are they being so cruel.Their action are not cruel and inhuman.Employers who abuse their maid will be prosecuted in court and punished according to law.Employers and their spouses will also be blacklisted permanently from employing maids.Employer must understand that the maid is not a chattel.she has feelings and physical, emotional and spiritual needs.Recognising his has to be the first step to take if you want to hire a maid.If the maid has made any mistakes please correct them istead of punish them.

Besides that, I came across one video clip in you tube, very related to your topic and I would like to share with you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LamzXPXM_8Q (Maid abuse in Malaysia) I briefly share some of the infomation I saw in the video with you guys here. From interviews,those maid abuse cases always happen inside the house without anybody knowing exclaimed those indonesian maid. Employers will normaly shut the door and window before trying to beat up their maids, so nobody will know. Did maids try to report this abuse case? They hardly do that because they were lock in the house and not able to use the phone. So some maids try to excape the house by jumping out from the window and seek help from nighbour. House minister of Malaysia said that normaly sex harrasment abuse happen to indian employer. He stated that some female employer will actaly help the male employer for sex harrasment their maid. That is stupid!!! lol... sorry for that. But I just can't imagine a wife is actualy helping her husband to rape the maid.. What the hell is that the world are going on??? arrghhh!! Maid been poured hot water also appear in the video clip but even worse is the maid said that she were iron by the hot ironin front her breast by her female boss ( picture also appears in the video) ooohh... can't believe how she able to stand that heat!! Beside that as the employer side interview, employer denied that she abuse the maid and claimed that the maid abuse her self to gey sympathy from public. I have no idea which side is telling the truth... I'm Syuriany...The cases that happened to Nirmala Bonat makes me think how bad is Malaysian attitude.They treat their maids like an animal and never think the importance of maid and her role to make life more easier.Because of some cases that happen to Indonesian maid,many countries pointed a bad reputation to Malaysian and this will cause many problems to our country.Employers should stop abuse their maids and try to listen what are the maid's need and problems to solve the matters together.Employers and their maid also have to create 'win-win situation' and everybody get the benefits..
AHMAD SHARIF: i dont really read the post, but just scheme it out.so, do correct me if i'm wrong..ok, you list out the abuse done by employers to their maids like rape, beaten, tortured with scalding water, iron on breast and whatsoever, and those employers will be arrested and punished of their wrong doings. so, here i ask you, who will arrest some maids who rob their employer's households and what will the govt do to those employers who already have lost their stuffs? think it.. AMIRAH ABDUL RAFFAR: Ok Sharif, I try my best to answer yr question, well the police indeed will take an action in investigating & arresting those maids which done that bad things. But, those cases were just similar with the robbery of any common cases we heard in Malaysia where the robbery cannot be detected and arrested due to many reasons; for instance, the robbery has gone no where. Well, those bad people might ran away abroad or oversea to save their life right. So, the maid which robbed or steal their employer's belongings would indeed will run away without a trace! Bad people do bad things. Then, for the government itself, they cannot give or pay back what the employers had lose because that's not the government fault and not the government resposibility to pay what the citizen were lose. We can see the same common cases where people did lose their stuffs by robbery and stealing. Some Jewellery shop did lose hundred thousands of Ringgit Malaysia where the jewellery had been robbed and you think the government should pay such that huge amount of the loses? The world is just like the spinning roulette, where it does has the winner and the loser. ;) TQ
More than 1000 maids, mainly Indonesian, flee their cruel employers every year. The issue of migrant domestic worker abuse is becoming one of growing concern in Malaysia.
WHY NEED MAID?
The world is changing. Changes in an individual’s career, marital status, health and other matters often affect the whole family. The need for maids to make life easier is a need to people who have lesser time to take care of the family and for household works.
